Due the problems getting Internet connectivity in Ethiopia I have few opportunities to experiment much with Drupal, and the network where I generally connect prohibits downloading most files extensions such .zip, .mp3 or even .gz, and ftp connections set off alarms too, so doing a manual updates are pretty tricky even when I do have the bandwidth. Nonetheless, I have a local installation to help figure things out.

Drupal has a large and and enthusiastic following for a CMS and people who seem to know say it has a more stable and secure code base than Joomla! - I am certainly not qualified to weigh in on that but I found it easier to get Joomla! to do what I wanted and generally worked better for me and to understand... even though I started with Drupal first.

This is, or rather will be, a personal website, but at the moment just an experiment at learning some web applications

This site has whole variety of hosted applications, some like Wordpress are by now very familiar to me, but others like the content management system Drupal (used for this page) are less familiar. I have installed and played around with Drupal before (with early versions of CiviCRM, but I understand that it now runs alongside my preferred CMS Joomla! also) and building basic sites, however, I still expect a learning curve.

This site has the easy to use zenPhoto gallery installed, which I liked before, but this site also has installed MediaWiki, phpBB for forum software, gmail and Google apps etc.

So, there is plenty to learn and play around with! With that list of things to explore you can expect that it will be slow for content to appear here, but I am further hampered, given that I am living in a country that has very limited site access and bandwidth even when we do have connectivity or even electricity. I am on old fashioned dial-up and running on battery while I write this ...
